12/25/12 Update

Merry Christmas! Everything arrived and the assembly went as planned. It was a little hard to notch and shorten the legs without a table saw but the jig saw cuts give it character right? lol. I got the first coat of white paint on this weekend. It would have been easier to spray paint but I couldn't do it indoors. The brushed look gives it that hand made look anyway though. I just need to do the antique finish and get the stools!

After searching high and low for a kitchen island / work table that was large enough to fit six people, the right height, durable enough to actually use and not thousands of dollars, I determined it didn't exist. And wasn't willing to settle for a cheap table that wasn't even what I wanted; so in typical architect fashion I designed it myself !!

Below is a list of the parts I ordered and painting supplied I’ll be using. More to follow on the building process.

The Table Parts
1.) Table Legs

2.) Table Apron and Corner Kit

3.) Maple Butcher Block Counter Top (Actually a work bench table top)
The Antique Paint Finish:
4.) Antique White Paint Finish How to
5.) Benjamin More Aura Interior Paint Matte Finish - Simply White

6.) Minwax Stain Marker - Goldan Oak

7.) Medium to Fine Sand Paper and Sanding Block

8.) Minwax Water Based Clear Coat - Spray or Paint

The Stools
9.) Counter Height Stools

This was the inspiration:

This is the design:
Most kitchen work tables and islands I saw were too small to fit 4-6 people. So mine will be 3ft x 5ft !
